October Meet-Up

What an interesting meeting!  Maggie brought some of her goodies from the telephone exchange, Nancy brought her pieces that she used for her quick class of wire wrap, Jennie brought her friend Tony who had multiple jewelry items to show and Jennie showed some of her pieces as well.  Great fun to see everyone's extraordinary talents!

Business:  There will be NO meeting in November.  December meeting will be the second Saturday in Dec rather than the usual date.  We will plan for ornament tutes and pot luck.  Do not forget!!!  Looking forward to seeing all the Christmas ideas.

Meeting:  Jennie gave us a quick lesson on the square kumihimo.  Awesome technique and we are told once you've done it a few times it comes easily.  Directions are important for your first endeavor!  Thank you Jennie for taking the time to show us this great technique and carry in all those supplies so we could try out the method and make any purchases if needed.  Nancy will be setting up time to go see Jennie's bead shop again real soon so get your lists together for needs and let Nancy know; or join her in the ride; supplies are a necessary evil for this addiction we have! Probably won't be until first of the year the trip is made though.  Jennie brought her long time friend Tony and she showed us her awesome crafts!  Her beading was so awesome!  Her next visit she may hold a class so heads up!

Attendees:  Maggie, Cheryl, Nancy, Jennie, Tony, Lynn,

Had fun at the last meeting where the demo was a cane by Cheryl Smith. I wanted to share the bracelet that I made from a cane that I made once I got home from the meeting. Thanks, Cheryl.

September 2015

Business:  Next meeting Linda will show us some wire working techniques.  She will bring some things for us to work with.  If Jennie is back in town on that date she will also show us some more kumihimo techniques.  There will be NO meeting in November.  December meeting will be the second Saturday in Dec rather than the usual date.  We will plan for ornament tutes and pot luck.
Julie brought a display of her collected mini bowls that she had received through a swap at a meet up.  They were fantastic.  She also showed us some items she had brought along in her bag of tricks that she'd made previously.  Julie surprised us with a box of goodies to share and we all got to partake and enjoy.  Thanks to Julie for sharing with us.

Demo today was presented by Cheryl on a Sandra McCaw technique to make an ikat technique and use it for a beautiful leaf design.  Cheryl did a wonderful job showing us the techniques to use and she brought many displays for us to admire.  We left with fabulous ideas and many of us completed our ikat cane as well.  We are hoping to see finished products at the next meet up.  Most of us were letting our newly constructed canes rest when the meeting ended.  Thanks to Cheryl for taking the time to make the display and show us how to make this awesome project.

Attendees:  Cheryl, Maggie, Nancy, Patti, Julie, Laurie, Lynn and a newcomer by the name of Judy.

July 25, 2015 Meet Up

Business:  Short discussion on upcoming meetings and demos.  Jennie could not make the meeting as her cat is having health issues.  If you need to pay your dues for this year wait for Aug as Jennie hopefully will be back and can take your funds.  Julie Eakes showed new texture tools that she had purchased.

Demo:  Maggie showed the group how to build a butterfly/moth lady pin.  Part 1 of the demo seemed to go well and most left with a mold ready to be worked with for this project.  Time flew by and all were busy with the building and baking.  Next meet up will be the remainder of the lesson and hopefully we'll all walk away with fab pieces of art!  Thanks Maggie for the great demo.  Next meet up remember to bring your items you were working on and we'll be shown how to finish up and also there will be a quick & short show of how to use Angelina fibers with polymer as there were some that had not seen this done before.  Nancy will bring the fibers and show you the basics after Maggie has us all cooking our pins.

June Meeting

June 27, 2015 Meet-Up

Meeting called to order.

Business: Dues are $15 for the year and due in June.  Next meet up will be a demo from Maggie on the moth necklace.  It may actually take two meet ups to complete.  You will need to bring Kato Black 2 packages for this adventure and you will also need some scrap clay to make your mold.  There may be other things you will need to bring as well but Kato clay is required for the final moth so prepare early on.

For those who updated your address and contact forms a new listing will be available at the July meeting.

A big welcome to Delores who has decided to join our group.

Today's demo was given by Jennie on Kumihimo.  What a great lesson.  Jennie supplied all that was needed to learn the method and even brought supplies in case we wanted to make purchases.  We learned the basic method and also how to add beads and finally how to finish our pieces.  Everyone was busy at the meet up and the time flew by.  We all learned plenty and there may be a bit of carry over to next meeting in case more finishing needs to happen.  Jennie has volunteered to be available for help to do the finishing next meet up if needed.  Thanks Jennie for carrying all that stuff for us and providing us with instruction and items to purchase if wanted. Bring your finished pieces to show next meet up!

April 25th Meet-Up

Business:  No meeting will be held in May due to so many other obligations with the clay retreat, etc.  We will meet again in June and Jennie has volunteered to give us a demo (and bring necessary supplies so we can purchase) for Kumihimo.  Many members are excited to learn this new technique so it can be used with our polymer creations.  Win, Win.  Julie found an interesting site to get some different shaped cutters and you too can go to:  polygoles.com and make a purchase if you  wish.    A suggestion for a group/guild setup twice a year at a flea market was mentioned and many were interested.  Dues are $15.00 for the upcoming year; due in June.  At this time a form with your contact info will be filled out and Nancy will make us all a new listing of info for members.

Demo was presented by Linda on a polymer bracelet to match up with a watch.  Linda provided all with a kit, including a watch, and everyone made a beautiful piece to wear and show off.  Thanks Linda for the demo.  Great demo and lots of pretty happy endings.

Attendees:  Maggie, Linda, Jennie, Pat, Christine, Nancy, Julie, Cheryl

additional info on supplies

Hi Y'all, When I said jewelry findings that was vague. The method we will be using will involve making clay tiles for the watch band. The findings that will be useful are eye pins, jump rings and toggles if you have them. Linda is going to provide material for the "hinge". So bring clay for making small tiles. If you have square cutters that might be helpful too. Hope this helps. Maggie

April 25, 2015 QCC meeting

Hi Y'all, It is almost time for our April meeting. Plans are for Linda to bring watches for us to make bands for. They are about 1-1/2" across with a light colored wooden ring around the face. The bars for the bands are fixed and just shy of 3/4" wide. She is also going to show us how to replace the batteries. Yea! Bring your usual kit if you want to make beads plus wire and jewelry finding you would like to use for closures. Looking over the notes from last time I think Jenny is going to demonstrate some wire wrapping technique too. Sounds like great fun and a busy demo. Hope to see you all there. Maggie

Monday, February 16, 2015

Meeting will be held at 12:00 noon on Feb 28th.  Our lunch is being provided by Sonny's BBQ and if your planning to attend, please let Nancy know early so she can make certain all will be fed (rxbv09a@aol.com).  Those that have already let Nancy know have been counted.  We are going to be working on Bottles of Hope for those unfortunate individuals that are dealing with cancer issues.  There will be some blank/clean bottles provided but if you have a bottle that the cover will remove that is less than 5" high; bring it on.  After we feast we will be decorating our bottles so bring whatever clay and/or canes you think you might need to decorate your bottle.  You may already have someone in mind to receive your bottle or if not, Nancy will collect the treasures and see that they go out to individuals dealing with this health issue.  It's going to be a fun meet up! Looking forward to it.  See you there!

January 2015 Meeting:

Business news:  Demos for the next few months have tentatively been decided.  February we will be hosting a Bottles Of Hope day.  Everyone should bring a 5" glass bottle or smaller (some will be provided) and enough clay colors to decorate your bottles.  Sonny's BBQ has gifted Nancy W a catered event and so we will all be fed.  The Ashville Guild has also been invited.  Please send Nancy a note letting her know how many plan to attend so we can be certain to have enough food for all.  March: Pattie will be doing a demo for us.  April: Linda wants to do a demo (perhaps at her home).  May:  Kathy has volunteered for a demo  (if something comes up between now and then and she can't do it; Maggie has said she will fill in).

Julie Eakes gave a wonderful demo on making organic looking pieces.  She gave useful tips and techniques and allowed everyone to be creative.  We learned a new IKat technique and learned to use a gouge creatively.  Thanks Julie for showing us this demo.  An assortment of beautiful pieces were made and perhaps in Feb we can return with them so we can take some pics for the site.

Attendees:  Maggie, Cheryl, Kathy, Linda, Nancy, Laurie, Beth, Patti, Lynn, Julie, and Christine drove in to visit.

January 2015 Meeting - Julie's pin demo

Charlotte Guild Meeting Saturday Jan 24, 2015

Happy New Year everyone!  I will be demonstrating how to make this pin.  You will need clay....duh! for mine I used black, yellow green, blue. white and a skinner blend from yellow to red.  You can use what ever colors you like.  It won't take a lot.  You will need a gouge tool if you have one.  I will have some to share.  I use gilders paste and acrylic paint that I will bring too.  Bring a pin back and something to texture the back.

See you on Saturday!
